At BAW, our belief is simple: work directly with the people hired. Every relationship and project has the personal involvement of BAW’s two principals, Brad Adams Walker and Karen Smith. Together with our group of talented professionals, we offer highly credentialed and qualified specialists who work together to create balanced and distinctive solutions.
Brad Adams Walker
Brad’s inspiration in architecture comes from a dedication for solving spatial problems, and a passion for creating meaningful solutions that create value for his clients. This commitment is applied to every project type – from office building renovation to 24-hour manned control building.
From his earliest days as an architect Brad’s work has been influenced by a dedication to an iterative and collaborative design process, and a classical understanding of historical principles in art and architecture.
For Brad, architecture is about creating more than a place with functional capacity. It is about realizing the potential of a client’s vision in the built environment.
He began his architectural career in 1981, following a degree in liberal arts (Phi Beta Kappa) and a master’s degree in architecture. He went on to co-found Brad Adams Walker Architecture, P.C. in 1992. Driven by a vision of creating a different kind of firm, BAW was established utilizing an approach that fully integrates architecture and interior design. Together with interior designer Karen Smith, they established a company that translates their respective passion and expertise into complete and cohesive solutions for their clients.
Since the firm’s origination, Brad and his team have collaborated to develop integrated architectural solutions for a range of Fortunate 500 companies and clients worldwide.
Interior Designer, Vice President
From the beginning of her profession, Karen sought to drive relevance to interior spaces through a symbiotic relationship with the architectural design process. Her inspiration comes from a desire to translate a vision of what is expected into a meaningful solution that balances functional effectiveness with aesthetic conscientiousness.
Karen believes that every space, whether corporate, institutional, or highly secure multi-use/24-hour command and control center, is deserving of thoughtful, intelligent, and compelling interior design. She also believes design that considers the experience of the space and the ergonomics of the inhabitants will more fully encourage productivity.
As co-founding principal of BAW, she creates visual synergy and unique spaces for the firm’s clients by drawing upon her diverse experience with academic facilities, cafeterias and food service, corporate office buildings (with a focus on high-end lobby renovations), and 24-hour control buildings.
